Prepare a Dental Care Kit for Traveling

Dental Travel Kit from Forestwood Dental in Spring Texas

When you are traveling, you should still take care of your teeth and gums to avoid developing cavities, gingivitis or halitosis. If you wear braces on your teeth, then you should make sure to brush and floss diligently to avoid having dental health issues underneath the wires and brackets of the braces. While preparing for your trip this summer, make sure to create a dental care kit that contains the essentials required for your mouth.

1. A New Toothbrush

You should replace your toothbrush every three months, so you can pack a new one in your traveling kit. Depending on how much space that you have, you can use a regular toothbrush or a special compact one that reduces in size. In addition, make sure to select a toothbrush that fits comfortably in your mouth, and also, you should avoid hard bristles that can damage the wires or brackets of your braces.

2. Dental Floss

Despite brushing your teeth, there are still a lot of food particles and plaque along the gums or between the teeth. If you wear braces, then debris tends to collect along the brackets and wires, leading to bad breath. There are different types of flosses available, including strand floss in a small box or individual picks that have tiny sections of floss.

3. Fluoride Toothpaste

Make sure to look for a tiny tube of fluoride toothpaste to pack in your dental care kit. You should look for toothpaste that contains fluoride but no artificial dyes that can stain the brackets and wires of your braces. Toothpaste that is plain white and has gentle ingredients is better for your teeth, and it won’t harm the brackets on your braces.

4. Mouthwash

To eliminate additional bacteria from your mouth, you can use mouthwash, but make sure to pack the variety that your dentist recommends. Many mouthwashes contain harmful dyes that can discolor your teeth. Swish the mouthwash around in your mouth after you brush your teeth in the morning and at night.

5. Tongue Scraper

If you develop a white surface on your tongue, then it is covered in bacteria that can create a disgusting odor and taste in your mouth. With a special plastic tongue scraper, you can eliminate this nasty film of bacteria from your mouth to prevent bad breath or tooth decay.

6. Dental Wax

When you wear braces or aligners on your teeth, you may have discomfort on your lips or soft oral tissues occasionally. Pack a small container of dental wax in your traveling dental care kit so that you can overcome any problems by applying this substance to your gums or soft oral tissues.

7. Fluoride Rinse

If you develop cavities easily, then you should use a fluoride rinse each day. Buy a small container for liquids so that you can pour the fluoride rinse into it, making it easier to pack in your dental care kit.

8. Mouth Guard

You should have a mouth guard to wear while playing sports that could lead to tooth damage. Make sure to pack your customized mouth guard that our dentist made for you. Keep this device in a durable container so that it isn’t damaged while you are traveling.
